The pilots considered it their job to keep peace in the colonies. If they had to kill a few colonists in process, it was no big deal. They had dealt with uprisings before. It was a simple process, roll in, fire a few warning shots, wait for the crowd to disperse, then head home. Suddenly a new blip appeared on the radar, then another. "What the heck is that," exclaimed one pilot. "I've had no reports from control indicating that there were any more mobile suit troops deployed, and the colonists don't have any mobile suits. We'd better go and check it out." The two Tragos changed course and rolled down a side street heading towards the blips on their radars. The colonists cleared out of the Tragos' way as they rumbled down the street. Suddenly a shot came from behind the Tragos and hit one in the back. "Alright!" yelled Ken Overl as he brought his Leo's machine gun to bear on the enemy Tragos. "Those fake sensor beacons worked like a charm." "I'll say," said the other Leo pilot, Dan Zux. He ran the other Tragos through with his beam saber. Both of the Tragos exploded with a bright explosion. A cheer went up from the colonists at the end of the street. "You see that, they love us," exclaimed Overl. "Yeah, but we're here to fight a war, not win the love of the people. We'd better get back to base and tell the Captain that his plan worked," responded Zux. "Man! Those stupid pilots sure fell for it," said Overl as he turned his Leo around. "Yeah, I'm glad the buildings block out our radar signals, and those fake beacons drew the enemy right into our trap," agreed Zux. * * * "I want to congratulate you two," said Captain Gan to the two Leo pilots. "You both performed very well. There were a few bumps and bruises on the Leos, but mostly damage was minimal. If all of our fights go this way, we should be in pretty good shape." "All of our fights should go this way if we stick to the guerilla tactics. We definitely couldn't survive even one pitched battle," stated Zux. "Quite true," agreed Overl. "Anyway, can you look into getting some better weapons for us, and maybe some better mobile suits?" Zux asked Gan. "Well, we can always try to salvage parts from any of the enemy mobile suits you destroy," answered Gan. "We could start by sending a team out to strip the armor and weapons off of the Tragos you just destroyed, although I doubt that there is anything of value left. You destroyed them pretty thoroughly." "See what you can do, any new equipment is good. Seeing as we don't have the money to pay for it," piped up Overl. * * * The next day Dan Zux received a message from Captain Gan. Gan had successfully contacted Scott Devoro and had got him to agree to pilot one of the Leos. The message also stated that the next mission would be to break out Slit, the criminal who was supposedly going to join the team. Zux didn't really trust the known murderer, but Gan seemed to, and Zux had the utmost faith in Gan. After all, he was putting his life in Gan's hands each and every day. So, Zux got dressed and headed out towards the secret base. Gan and his staff would take care of Zux's boss, so that Zux could miss work and still be paid. "That," thought Zux, "is one good thing about being on this team. Gan has sure got connections on this colony." When Zux reached the base, the scanners recognized him right away and so the door slid open automatically. The base was in a supposedly abandoned warehouse. The door wouldn't open for anyone but authorized personnel. Standing right inside of the door, was Captain Gan and another man, whom Zux assumed to be Scott Devoro. Fitting with his profile as a racecar driver, Devoro was fit and of average height. Devoro at least looked like a good mobile suit pilot. "Welcome back Zux," greeted Gan, "this is Scott Devoro." "Welcome to the team," said Zux to Devoro while nodding to Gan. "If you'll follow me I'll give you the information for the mission," stated Gan. * * * Slit sat patiently in his cell, his cellmate cowering in a corner near the waste pile. The fools were coming, that much Slit knew. As soon as those would-be resistance fighters armed him, he'd kill them all and make his getaway. The guards in the hallway changed every six hours , Slit guessed that his rescuers would come during one of those changes. But he didn't know how they'd come. They could be foolish enough to try a frontal break in, or they might sneak in. But best yet, would be if they came in mobile suits. Slit prided himself on his piloting skills almost as much as he did on his assassination skills. If they were stupid enough to bring along mobile suits, Slit could steal one and destroy all the others, then make his escape. He snickered to himself, which made his cellmate cower even more. * * * The shuttle was coming closer to the prison. The guards were so use to this routine; it was probably some prisoner transfer or an unimportant offical visiting the prison. They didn't look up, until it was too late. The hidden guns on the shuttles wings and in its body swung out and opened fire; the guards were wiped out in a matter of seconds. The shuttle proceeded to strafe the front of the building to see if there were any survivors. Then the back of the shuttle opened and three Leo early types flew out. "Good shooting!" exclaimed Zux, "it doesn't look like anything survived." "That's for sure," agreed Overl. "Cut the chatter out there!" ordered Gan, speaking over the shuttle's comm unit. "Alright," replied Zux, "proceeding to target." The three Leos formed up and headed towards the far side of the prison. Suddenly a dober gun shell flared from around the corner of the building, streaming towards one of the Leos and hitting it. "Crap!" exclaimed Devoro, "I'm hit! Powerplant okay, weapon operational, damage to structure." "Pull out," commanded Zux. "It's okay, I can take it." "Fine, hang back and cover me then," Zux piloted his mobile suit towards the corner. Whipping out his beam saber and igniting it. Then the enemy Leo stepped out, its Dober Gun pointed straight at Zux's suit. The enemy Leo squeezed the trigger. -End of Chapter 2-
