Gundam Wing: True Heroes By Mr. Bagel, Eltharion5@aol.com Dramatis Personae Dan Zux - Male from Earth Ken Overl - Male from L2 Scott Devoro - Male from L3 Slit - Male Captain Gan - Male from L3 Chapter 1 The two men could not be more different, but they were united to a single cause, so they were working together. Dan Zux, a retired earth military official stood pouring over mobile suit specs. The other man was known only as Captain Gan, he was supposedly a military and organizational genius. "Alright, these early Leos look sufficient enough for our purpose," Zux stated. "I heartily concur," responded Gan. "And I do believe you will be satisfied with my choices in pilots." "Okay, read 'em off to me." "First up, that is besides yourself, is Ken Overl. He's a construction worker and therefore an expert in demolitions. He is also secretly the head of one of the many violent terrorist groups that attack the earth's mobile suits. Next is Scott Devoro, we might have a little trouble getting him to join. He's a truck driver and also a superb racecar driver. He's not openly opposed to the UESA but he often runs shipments of supplies for us, so we should be able to convince him. Finally, and this one I'm not so sure about, is the man known as Slit. "Wasn't he the criminal who poisoned the UESA leaders on L3?" "Correct. In fact your first mission will be to liberate him from the clutches of the UESA. But I digress, he, as you said, is a well-known criminal. But we chose him because his actions reflect the overall goals of this organization. He is an adept mobile suit pilot; we know this because he often stole MS to get away from the authorities. If he causes trouble during the missions it will be up to you to keep him in check." "What about the other two, are either of them here yet?" "Overl is, but like I said we still need to get Devoro to join." "Well, he lives on this colony doesn't he? Let's go and get him." Gan folded up the MS specs and followed Zux outside into the bright artificial light of the colony. * * * The man known as Slit sat in his prison cell waiting patiently. He had received word from some fool who led resistance fighters that they were going to break him out. This was okay with him, after the fools got him away from the jail; he'd thank them, then kill them and plunder one of their identities. We wondered how they were going to get him out. Would they disguise themselves as guards, would they break in, would they let one of their own get captured? As he pondered the various options, he began to chuckle at their stupidity, he would get a free ride out, and they would get a free ride to hell. He started to laugh maniacally. "Be quiet in there!" a guard yelled at him. "That 'un's the craziest one I've ever seen," whispered a prisoner to his cellmate. "I'm glad I'm not in with him," replied the other. He chanced a glance over at the hollow eyed young man that did share a cell with Slit. * * * As Zux and Gan were leaving, a shrill alarm started to sound throughout the colony. A lieutenant wearing the uniform of the resistance ran up to the two men. "Report, lieutenant," barked Gan. "Sir, we have 2 Leo mobile suits threatening a crowd not too far from here!" "I think that this would be a good time to try out our mobile suits," suggested Zux. "I agree," replied Gan. "Go and get yourself ready, lieutenant go and get the other pilot. I also want our troops armed with missile launchers to act as support for our mobile suits. "Yes sir!" the lieutenant and Zux replied at the same time. Zux sped off to the ready room where he fetched his goggles. He then proceeded to the hanger with the four Leo Early Types which had been repainted to the resistance colors. "Now then," he said to nobody in particular, "which one should I take?" Two of the MS were armed with the standard shield and machine gun, another had a bazooka, yet another had a machine gun and a beam saber. "Alright, I can't use the bazooka, it would injure the civilians, the shield isn't going to be very effective against machine guns, that leaves me with the beam saber and machine gun." Zux climbed up the ladder and into the cockpit where he strapped himself in and put on his goggles. "This is Lead to control, open the hanger doors." "Roger that Lead, opening now," the controller replied. The big doors started opening slowly with a creak. Zux put his Leo into motion and saw one of the others fall in step behind him. He brought the riot zone up onto his radar and headed towards it. As he got closer he saw the two enemy Leos appear on the radar, he called up the specs on them and found that they were standard Leos armed with machine guns. "You there Two?" he said into his comm unit. "Right behind ya boss," came the reply. "Okay, I'll draw their fire away from the crowds, then you take 'em out. Aim for their visual sensors first, then destroy them. "Copy that Lead." As Zux came up on the building between him and the enemy he pivoted his MS to the right then cut across the enemies' line of fire. The pilots were so surprised to see another mobile suit that they didn't fire at him. So Zux repeated his action this time simultaneously running and firing at them. He scored a hit on one of them, but the other fired at him at clipped his foot as he went behind a building. As Zux repeated his action again Overl came around the back corner in his Leo and fired at one of the enemy Leos scoring a hit on his back and causing the MS to fall over. "What the heck?" said the other pilot turning around to face this new threat. Zux took this as his chance. He opened fire on the enemy mobile suit, knocking it forward from the impact of so many rounds fired upon it. The enemy Leo exploded half way down to the ground. "Well, I guess that's it," stated Zux. "Not so fast, I'm picking up two more MS on my radar," said Overl hurriedly. "Now I got 'em too." "They're registering as Tragos." "Uh-oh. Just the two of us might not be able to take both of them on." "Correct, but if we retreat than they can just fire on the civilians for our aggression against the Leos." "Well, Tragos armor is better than the Leo armor, we won't be able to hurt it that much with these machine guns." "Are you suggesting that we get the bazooka?" "Well..." "No way! We'd have too many civilian causalities!" "Yes. But if we stop the Tragos, it could be worth it." "Control, this is Lead. Project maximum civilian causalities from a bazooka blast," said Zux into his comm. "Maximum civilian causalities registers at least 55 per blast," the control told them. "You see, I told ya," said Zux to Overl. "Well, do you have a better solution?" retorted Overl. "As a matter of fact, I do. We can tell the captain to get Three down here quick. We'll just have to hold out until then." "I copy that Lead." "Alright, move towards the targets but do not engage. Use the buildings for cover and hopefully keep off of their radar. Move out!" "Yes sir!" The mobile suits proceeded towards their enemies, now much more dangerous then before. Overl began to wonder if this, his first encounter in a mobile suit, would also be his last. -End of Chapter 1-
